A curtain side van is a flatbed with an upper structure mounted on it and covered with tarps. The side of the pickup is covered by a canvas material which is secured by several fastenings at the bottom. When closed, the side curtains are stretched both horizontally and vertically to provide a weather-resistant body of the van. The canvas curtains can be pulled back to facilitate loading. The curtains are usually mounted on a galvanised steel or aluminium frame.

These vans have the benefit of unrestricted access from three sides during loading and unloading by manual load handling or by forklift.
